this is probably still far too many and i would be better off if i just stuck to like, six or eight, but:
1) oftentimes the mons i like the most take a while to get to, so it’s good to have others until you get to that point
2) there are over a thousand pokémon so if i only used six i would simply not be able to use a great many of them
3) i would have a very hard time deciding on six without using a bunch of them and seeing which i like the vibes of the best
did illumination take all their cues not from the original super mario bros but from ubisoft mario rabbids
“language determines cognition”
what they think it means:
- if you don't have a word for green you don't know what colour grass is
what it actually means:
- if your language is SVO you will prefer pictures which place the agent of the action first, the instrument of the action in the middle, and the target of the action at the end
- “first”, “middle”, and “end” are determined by the writing direction of your written language if you have one
- if you don't have a word for green you can just say “the colour of grass”
and humans being humans decided they would rather live a life with really sick guitar riffs in it
nature was like you can all be healthy, happy, and productive, OR some of you can learn some really sick guitar riffs
being good at writing also means being able to appreciate to a greater extent the beauty in various turns of phrase so it's not all bad
but you don't get good without hijacking your brain’s pattern-matching to constantly notice flaws in text and identify discrepancies between stated and intended meaning
noticing these things doesn’t make you a bad person but it does inevitably lead you down the path of being kind of an asshole
every time anyone says anything you are reminded that the world is a flawed, imperfect place and that things could be better
everyone complains about how quickly people play contemporary games, move on, and forget about them in an endless churn; if only there was a game mechanic which required people to take their time with things and spread it out across multiple sittings
