Grind is not memorable
@Lady it's really just a semantic issue I guess. Grind that doesn't overstay its welcome doesn't get called grind, it's just "progression"
@clayote i think that's the thing though, the number of memorable things a brain can actually retain in a given time period is limited
if your game is just one memorable thing after another then retention on that will actually be pretty low, compared to one memorable thing and then an hour with nothing to do but think about it as you work towards the next memorable thing
everyone complains about how quickly people play contemporary games, move on, and forget about them in an endless churn; if only there was a game mechanic which required people to take their time with things and spread it out across multiple sittings
