food terminology

@rabbithearth spuds are potatoes in our dialect and i am also familiar with fried cornmeal balls being called hushpuppies, so i would assume it was a similar dish but made with potato instead of corn? but i’ve never actually heard it used that i can recall

@soph_sol @kate yeah it’s difficult to find r-values for non-construction materials but wikipedia cites cotton batting insulation as having an r-value of 3.7 per inch which is roughly concordant with the r-values this quilter provided: quilting-tidbits.com/the-ultim

no idea what one needs as a minimum r-value for a trivet tho so i’ll leave that part of the math to you 😅

@vaporeon_ @aescling @wallhackio huh that is not the belief system i would have pegged you as

@infernusgoatus looks like some sort of bagworm moth, they’re known for building their cocoons out of plant matter like that

@weirdestate okay besides the staircase, which ontop of being glaringly unsafe is also weirdly organic, like when you pour wax down an anthill? this house is actually super cool! hope it goes to someone who appreciates its character

alcohol

@wallhackio i assume this is actually a trick question and they’re all beers, but psychedelic cat grass comes off the most like a weed name of the bunch

@wallhackio @Lady garlic butter is delicious on a great number of things

@wallhackio @Lady what are you doing with your garlic butter if you arent putting it on carbs

@Lady @wallhackio @aescling seems like the pokemon fancomics are not the primary impediment to watching kill la kill then

@aescling @wallhackio @Lady has she started kill la kill or is she just playing more baldurs gate

@Lady @wallhackio @aescling i mean, you could also make pokemon fancomics if u wanna refute me

@Betty @soph_sol yikes yeah no thank you to the lead glass pickle dish!

i don’t know if this is particularly comforting but the good news is if your mom is just using inherited dishes, she is probably serving a lot less lead up at her table than your grandmother did when those were new? sciencedirect.com/science/arti

@soph_sol @Betty yeah my understanding is that leaded glass is *relatively* unlikely to put lead in your bloodstream (unlike, say, lead paint or gasoline which both super defo did in high volumes) esp if it has been recycled and therefore diluted. But would still rather have zero lead in my glass personally! do not feel like this is unreasonable at all and yet!!!
