@kate @soph_sol if you search “cotton batting r-value” you get a whole bunch of hits from construction people claiming that it is about as insulatory per-inch thickness as fiberglass insulation? so it definitely should be feasible
Was just able to carry a hot pan from the stove to the sink with only sweaterpaws which supports this theory
@soph_sol @kate yeah it’s difficult to find r-values for non-construction materials but wikipedia cites cotton batting insulation as having an r-value of 3.7 per inch which is roughly concordant with the r-values this quilter provided: https://quilting-tidbits.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-choosing-the-best-quilt-batting-for-your-project/
no idea what one needs as a minimum r-value for a trivet tho so i’ll leave that part of the math to you 😅
