d&d alignments
@gaditb my point is, i definitely recognize that
fascist / capitalist / ancap
are evil archetypes. but i'm not convinced that
tankie / poststructuralist / ancom
are not ALSO evil archetypes. but like, in a good way
d&d alignments
@gaditb under your definitions, the good neutral evil character understands that material conditions are such that their aims are most achievable when people work together in solidarity over shared mutual interest. they do not care about “helping people” in the abstract, but materially, they believe that a mass perspective will do better for them than a perspective of individualism and manipulation. it so happens that a mass perspective is also, materially, what is best for people in general
does it really matter whether you are organizing a union because you are a disempowered worker who wants more power, or if you are organizing a union because you want what is best for society? in the end, disempowered workers getting more power IS what is best for society
d&d alignments
@gaditb so you think what distinguishes good (d&d alignment) from evil (d&d alignment) is ends and not means
d&d alignments
@AuntyChrist these are both fictions
d&d alignments
i was trying to explain to @Satsuma that the good/evil dichotomy is just the idealism/materialism question and they were having none of it
Anodyne 1 is free this weekend for its 10th birthday!! if you like Link's Awakening or Yume Nikki you owe it to yourself to check it out.
(possibly check it out via AnodyneSharp, the recently completed fan port to C#/MonoGame with much better compatibility than the original Adobe AIR based release, and supports running at whatever framerate you want)
i started playing baldur’s gate
@KitRedgrave i think it's AD&D 2nd ed actually
i started playing baldur’s gate
i can forgive the technical limitations and wonky controls but i'm not sure i can forgive the term “THAC0”
@alyssa yes
@coriander disney remake the prequel trilogy cowards
@coriander i feel like "i hate the jedi" kind of stops working as a motivation once… the jedi stop existing…
@coriander no but like
i understand the arc of anakin wanting more power and being frustrated with liberal democracy and betraying them in a way which allowed fascism to take over
but like, there's a difference between that and being an outright fascist who believes in racial superiority and blows up planets because they displease you
prequel anakin is sometimes racist but he doesn't really have THOSE vibes to me and it's not clear where/when/how he gets them
at the end of episode iii palpatine has successfully USED anakin to overthrow the jedi but i'm not convinced he has actually signed on to the empire's ideological program at all; he just hates the jedi
@coriander ok but like… why DID vader turn to the dark side
@coriander how i feel about writing
i mean i still write but it's for an audience of like 5
