@imp i kinda get wanting a “mary bennet but more interesting” romance for all the bookish awkward girls who do not go around officiously quoting christian sermons at people but carolines whole bit is that she’s got tons of stuff going for her and is nonetheless kinda awful
@villainousfriend @Betty yeah i think the people saying its fine if english majors don’t get dickens are maybe a little over-indexing on the headlines “cant read” and less on the studie’s “to the standards we expect for english majors” but the people critiquing the methodology of the study are 100% valid that format of reading sounds absolutely excruciating to me
@aescling @wallhackio @Lady its a valid reading of the text
@pengilly @fanfiction i feel like all of these lengths have their own unique strengths and weaknesses! but i do appreciate the convenience of something i can finish in one sitting (so all of the <50k options)
@clarfonthey two sips of soup is presumed to make your anger recede regardless of your answer to the poll
@Anke ah i see! interesting. Retour is…i’ve never heard anyone use it so it’d definitely make me blink to come across, but since both of its constituent parts are valid english words with about the same meaning as their french counterparts its mostly sensical?
@Anke is there a reason why you can’t use the more common “return”
@coriander @Lady @wallhackio yes, book 5 (post gap) was order of the pheonix which introduces the secret society by the same name
@wallhackio @Lady @coriander books 1-4 were published on an annual basis and then she realized sue wrote herself into a corner so book 5 took three years, during which fans speculated extensively on what was going to happen next. And then she solved everything in a much more boring way then the fans had and everyone was disappointed
@Lady @coriander @wallhackio i don’t know i would have phrased it quite like that if only but it was definitely a catalyzing moment in fan culture
@Lady also stress and anxiety and dispair
@Lady tea is good for that too
@rowyn yay i’m glad you found her! what a good kitty finding her way towards your voice 💛
re: Alc
@wallhackio @monorail soju is typically distilled (tho unlike western spirits it is typically below 35%ABV & can be as low as 12%ABV) while sake is not but both are fermented rice alcohols
the distillation process is clean enough that its not that different from vodka (or watered down vodka depending) but the post distillation processing is done according to Korean tastes
@montag one of the tragic facts of life
@celesteh i could use some of those around here too, if you manage to find the source!
