nerdy blog stuff (long, maybe this should be a blog post itself?)

@ljwrites i still follow you on Dreamwidth! Your markdown auto-emailer sounds like a neat trick—I think DW does have some native crossposting support but afaik it’s only outbound. Which is a shame bc they do have support for collecting inbound RSS already, they just don’t let personal accounts syndicate that way

@soph_sol @Forestofglory yeah I’ve noticed the issue with pop culture holding onto debunked histories / historical logics far longer than necessary in a number of issues, not just China—but it’s always annoying haha

Thank you for the book rec!

@Forestofglory @soph_sol yeah I’m not into teleological history, would much rather everyone stopped viewing the current geographic china as inevitable

@villainousfriend the painted paper kind is 屏風 which is literally “wind blocker” haha

@villainousfriend i’m not an expert but my understanding is the wooden ones with designed carved through are for allowing a breeze while maintaining some privacy (or hiding unsightly features) while the solid ones are for blocking drafts

Obviously they also all have the advantage of being very ornamental looking which I’m sure the Jin appreciate

@villainousfriend i mean one of the purposes of screens is promoting airflow so, they are a kind of climate control, just not the one you’re thinking of?

@twistylittlepassages @rabbithearth i feel like ex-metamour is slightly easier to parse, since meta on its own can have a variety of meanings?

but yeah definitely both of them have valid relationship logic so part of it’s just what aspect you want to focus on I guess

@ClarityClare7@apobangpo.space yay for Woosung!! And yeah international shipping can get so expensive 😭

@ClarityClare7@apobangpo.space gotta call your reps and tell them VAT shouldn’t apply to lifesaving necessities

re: food

@pamela @gnomon well these days I’m more of a “put all the things in ramen” person than mac & cheese but I’m still definitely in favor of the concept in principle so I’ll argue you just have good taste rather than specifically my mothers 😆

re: food

@pamela my mum always threw some frozen peas in with the pasta (or encouraged us to if we were making mac & cheese) which did make it feel more like actual dinner at least

@bright_helpings i’m glad it worked out so well and that you were able to get home so quickly!

@soph_sol @Betty @Forestofglory my first grade teacher bribed me to actually do my classwork by loaning be books i couldnt find in the library which is how i came across it haha—i don’t remember half the titles anymore but so many of them were these super old children’s books 😆

she definitely made the right call there but that was bc she already knew i was that kind of strange child!

@soph_sol @Betty @Forestofglory haha yes Little Lord Fauntleroy (or any of the other Burnett novels) is not going on my rec list for kids

@twistylittlepassages @mensrea yeah proton mail is what I use—the free plan was more than good enough for me to get a feel for whether I liked their systems and I’ve since upgraded so I can have more than one email address from them without juggling accounts (this was a huge plus for me since I had several gmail accts I was trying to ditch but ymmv obviously)
