Is it just me, or does anyone else see these decorative panels and just assume they're Ye Olde Radiator Covers? This is the umpteenth time I've caught myself and had to go, no, the Jin might have been ahead of their time with some interior décor choices, but probable not that one.

@villainousfriend i mean one of the purposes of screens is promoting airflow so, they are a kind of climate control, just not the one you’re thinking of?

@villainousfriend i’m not an expert but my understanding is the wooden ones with designed carved through are for allowing a breeze while maintaining some privacy (or hiding unsightly features) while the solid ones are for blocking drafts

Obviously they also all have the advantage of being very ornamental looking which I’m sure the Jin appreciate

@villainousfriend the painted paper kind is 屏風 which is literally “wind blocker” haha

@Satsuma I love it when I shitpost and then learn stuff from it!

I should find out more about screens tbh. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Europe didn’t have mobile screens as furniture at all until they were introduced from China, really late, which feels like it can’t possibly true but maybe is? How do you divide up your space or make a little private corner for washing/changing if you don’t have screens? So weird.

@villainousfriend @Satsuma They existed in Baroque Europe, but honestly, before that nobody really gave a fig about seeing anybody naked, even across genders. And rich ladies had their own little dressing rooms
