Got a phone call just as @diffrentcolours was making me a cup of tea... that it turned out I couldn't drink because the phone call was telling me that due to a cancelation I can suddenly have my ankle operation today!

Probably. I'm at the hospital now and have just been told one of the xray machines is down so there's a chance it won't happen today.

But when I was told on Friday it'd be 7-10 days, this is still progress!

Done with surgery! Feel fine now, just sleepy because the drugs haven't worn off yet.

I am impatient to get home which should be this evening but I need to have a pee and prove to physios that I can get around first. Also need to eat food! Nil by mouth sucks!!!

But I am basically fine.

Home and in bed, about 14 hours after I was first told I might have the surgery today. Not bad!

I'm actually happy it worked out this way, I would normally have had a call one day telling me to turn up at the hospital the next day, which would have given me lots more time for my anxiety to ramp up.

When I mentioned in my team's meeting this morning that I was suddenly having this operation, my manager said he wanted a report on what silly things I said while coming round (and told a cute story about his own, where he called himself "devastatingly handsome" which is so funny because he's so self-effacing normally).

Obviously I'm sure the really good stuff I don't remember, all I do remember is calling D "my husband" and then being so mortified/amused that it totally derailed my sentence 😆
