koreapol correction: tanks but no tanks
@ljwrites i am glad there aren’t tanks! hopefully the process of ousting this asshole can proceed as quickly as declaring martial law unconstitutional, despite military interference
@Lady i mean i always can but u generally dont
@xieliansbignaturals c-ent is a nice general purpose comm, and also maintains a list of most of the chinese media communities on dreamwidth, some of which may be of interest to you: https://c-ent.dreamwidth.org/40472.html
snowflake challenge is coming up in january and a great way to make new fandom friends! and also super chill about partial-completion which is nice bc i never do all the prompts 😅https://snowflake-challenge.dreamwidth.org
if you’d like some fic in your feed, dwfanfic is a directory of places where people can read/post fanfic on dw: https://dwfanfic.dreamwidth.org
fancake is the most popular multifandom recs community rn i think—users post recs to fics both on dreamwidth and elsewhere (aka usually ao3): https://fancake.dreamwidth.org
@xieliansbignaturals @bluedreaming also, if you decide to make an account ask people to rec you communities (somewhere between a group blog and a forum) since finding active ones is a lil tricky but they make the site so much more fun!
@bluedreaming @xieliansbignaturals it might just be that i joined both at the same time, but in my experience dreamwidth’s culture has some definite overlaps with fandom fedi’s—they’re both more text heavy than twitter/bluesky/tumblr and allow people to be a bit longer/more rambly in their posts but short posts are also very welcome
also like fedi the site has built in user added content warnings—you can flag posts (or your whole blog) as 18+, and people use dreamwidths cut tag (kinda like a fedi cw, except it only applies to part of a post instead of the whole thing) for both actual warnings and more casual utility (eg. to shorten overlong posts, to hide the punchline of a joke, media spoilers, to make it easier to skip digressions from the main “topic”)
@Lady i probably have heard about it but you were not really providing specifics and “over 500 lbs of pasta dumped in new jersey woods” is unfortunately much more memorable
@dottore happy blorboversary!
@Lady this is why i only go on trains
@wallhackio has he seen what wooper looks like bc that is an important piece of context
re: critique of critiques of princess narratives
@Lady @aschmitz in tangled’s case specifically i do think they could have just skipped the princess bit and it would have worked just as well. She is notably *not* a princess in most versions of rapunzel but rather the child of a poor couple coerced into an unreasonable bargain. Her rescuer is often a prince (and thus if she marries him she marries into royalty) but that identity is more or less irrelevant to the plot save for the association between royalty and hunting and thus having reasons to be wandering forests
@wallhackio a baby salamander?
@aescling i guess the majority of your followers do not know about baby salamanders?
