@Mer__edith surprised the article doesn’t even mention MCAS as a potential explanation, when the symptoms are quite similar and it’s known to be comorbid with both ME/CFS and POTS

I suppose the individual patients in the study in question were asked more detailed questions to rule it out (as it would have also provoked milk reactions from some other foods—fermented stuff and capsaicin are both triggers) and then it didn’t make it into the article as an option for other people looking for answers…

@researchfairy mine has this! both “start playing at n seconds” and “finish episode n seconds from the end”, customizable per podcast if you’d like a rec?

@pamela that kind of almost aggressive spring sun that seems like its trying its hardest to make up for several months of dark and cloudy winter all in one day

health (no rants I promise)

@celli@octodon.social i’m glad you’re taking some time off to test and heal!

You definitely shouldn’t spend every hour catching up on Korean and crafting but maybe you could “compromise” with that side of your brain by watching a few silly kdramas?

@aescling @Lady @wallhackio i know servers do character limits conditional on CW’s—would something similar for polls be too difficult?

ep3

@Betty @geraineon @Forestofglory fandom has done you a disservice—two of the four leads are women

The supporting cast has several great female characters as well, with varying amounts of screentime

conspiracy theory terminology question

@eldang the importance of regional specificity all too often is only evident after the fact!

I am speaking from a US context here for the part of that based on my own experiences to be clear—I think antiblack racism in particular in particular tends to have a common “they have too many kids which is bad and dangerous to me somehow” theme (eg. welfare queens mix the spectre of black children with “your tax money” but also all the pushes to give black girls IUDs/birth control implants which can be well meant but get real sus in the messaging)

conspiracy theory terminology question

@eldang i most frequently see it in a generally racist context rather than specifically antisemitic — and looking it up it does seem the person who coined the term was primarily conspiracy theorying about Muslims ruining France somehow (tho he was building off older specifically antisemetic tropes)

so my vote (not that i voted, the poll is closed lol) is somewhere between A&B I guess, and if I did see B I would probably assume liberals was probably a euphemism for BIPoC

@lirazel oh nice! And yeah it’s a much broader discussion but I thought if you couldnt find anything else it’d at least be something

Will let you know if the prof has any good recs!

health/injury

@celli@octodon.social oof foot/leg injuries can be so difficult :( wishing you lots of rest and painkillers that work when you need a break

mh -

@twistylittlepassages @bright_helpings alliance to not have feelings give us headaches 🤝

@lirazel you might also find “the whole picture” by Alice Procter helpful—it’s a bit of a broader topic but it mentions both remains and repatriation on the back cover blurb (its on my tbr right now)

@lirazel not off the top of my head but i can ask my prof on tuesday! (i suspect she will say “unfortunately most museums are a mess rn about this and so there is not”)

@soph_sol it depends on the person—most people have their discord privacy settings set to either not accept DMs from non-friends at all, or to only accept if you two share a server (mine is the latter)

Which is basically a long way of saying ‘yes you will probably have to send a friend request if you don’t at least share a server’

@asya couldnt even make it past the post thread before he wrecked me 😅
