@coriander i think many if not most artists like the directions other artists can take things better than the direction that they wind up taking things themselves, but the good artists make peace with the fact that they can’t be other people and learn their own strengths
@coriander an art tip is that the direction you wind up taking things won’t always line up with the direction you intended to take things; this is called “having an art style” and you should lean into it
@coriander it’s not “ruining” it’s “taking it in a different direction”
@aescling @wallhackio From Up On Poppy Hill
@gaditb for ages star wars media operated on the unstated principle that the empire was bad and the point of the series was to showcase various heroes who stood up to it. then the 2000s happened and suddenly they were like “actually the empire and the republic are functionally equivalent and the difference between the two is mostly aesthetic”
this is not a particularly well-researched take but it sure feels like there was a shift
@wallhackio @aescling do you want to watch the movie with non-grandma incest next week
@wallhackio @aescling When Marnie Was There

@aescling this is the 19th video in what was supposed to be an 18 video series
@coriander the whole idea behind the UN Security Council is to get the world’s most powerful players with the biggest militaries at the same table, which means that the UNSC can’t do anything which would anger those major powers and make them leave, which means they have to have veto power to prevent that
the world’s most powerful players are defined as the United States, Russia, and China
and also France and the United Kingdom for some reason
@coriander because the alternative is the US not being in the UN, which people have generally accepted to be a worse outcome
@aescling you can't get roasted for things you freely admit
