re: UNIX philosophy is

@aescling i absolutely am planning on doing this level of complexity when i get around to building my encyclopedia software (and i'll look into sblg to see if it can help with that) but for a simple static site it's a lot easier to just regenerate every file on every make and not worry about any of the rest of it

re: UNIX philosophy is

@aescling yes, assuming that git ignores all build output you can do a subshell call in the makefile to get a list of targets and use that to build a bunch of rules for making those targets from their sources and then use a subcall to make to see if any targets are out of date before allowing a sync

or you could just touch .grass

re: UNIX philosophy is

@aescling you read my blogpost right

re: UNIX philosophy is

@aescling nice, i already coordinate all my static site generation with makefiles

re: UNIX philosophy is

@aescling i have not

re: UNIX philosophy is

@Satsuma has heard me go on long rants about how static site generators are failing indies because every single time it’s “how do i teach the program how to make the thing i want” not “how does the program help me teach my computer…”

every time you switch programs it’s just an entirely new set of fucking rules

UNIX philosophy is

not learning how to use the program, but learning how the program can help you use your computer

matrix/element meta

yes please stop using the decentralized end-to-end encrypted chat protocol that will really show those police who is boss

matrix/element meta

of the anarchists saying you shouldn't use matrix because they help host encrypted chat services for cops, how many do you think are cia plants and how many do you think are just volunteering their services for free

@coriander gonna make a linked in and use it to post my reviews of zelda blowjob fanfiction

@aescling @wallhackio food, like a deli

presents, like delis are present in a grocery store

cold, like chilled deli meats

re: gender controversies in gaming, ranked

@aescling @coriander Dark Samus is a Metroid (specifically: the Metroid Prime [combined with Phaazon and Samus’s DNA]) and it's unclear whether Metroids have a gender (not all Metroids can develop to queens, but it’s not clear that this is a sex distinction as we would conventionally think of it)

official media typically uses “it” to refer to the Metroid Prime but “she” to refer to Dark Samus, which leaves open the question as to whether Dark Samus has developed a gender identity or sexed aspects as a result of her adopting the form of/some DNA from Samus

re: sheik/zelda

@aescling @coriander from the cinematography i think Hyrule Warriors definitely expects you to Know but also that game is also nearly a decade old at this point

gender controversies in gaming, ranked

3) is the person you get the gerudo outfit from in breath of the wild a girl

2) is sheik a girl

1) is dark samus a girl

sheik/zelda

@coriander generally the consensus is that it is NOT a spoiler in melee since i'm pretty sure it's revealed in the opening video

sheik/zelda

@coriander my very diplomatic reply was « oh if you haven't played super smash bros melee for the nintendo gamecube zelda and sheik are the same character »

sheik/zelda

@coriander it used to not be a spoiler!! is it a spoiler again?!

sheik/zelda

today someone in a discord didn’t know these were the same character

i don’t expect people to have played ocarina of time (or hyrule warriors) but i usually expect people to at least know as much from smash bros

but then i remembered

they haven’t been the same character in smash bros for nearly a decade

zelda games

@coriander really what it is is “they finally made a non-handheld Zelda game which isn't a sequel or prequel to Ocarina of Time”, which yes, thank goodness lol, but also the handheld games have been doing this since literally forever

but zelda fans really need to get it in their heads that just because all the zelda games were stuck into a timeline for Skyward Sword marketing purposes DOESN’T mean that timeline is canon to every previous zelda game
