re: (Experimental?) New Features in Kibicat Mastodon

@alyssa if that wasn’t the case i definitely would have looked into it

re: (Experimental?) New Features in Kibicat Mastodon

@alyssa i’m ambivalent since the current public view will disappear in 4.0 (it’s all going to use the frontend JS; see mastodon.social which is running this code now)

re: (Experimental?) New Features in Kibicat Mastodon

(here is what this post looks like in the frontend for those of you on different servers btw)

(specifically the confirmation popup is broken; sorry local users we’ll fix that lmao)

(Experimental?) New Features in Kibicat Mastodon

The other day I was talking with some friends about the “old days” before Mastodon supported CWs, and how we used to EBG13 nyy bs bhe cbfgf because, guess what, if Mastodon didn’t have CWs we still wouldn’t throw nyy guvf fuvg out in the open. I realized that I actually kind of liked ROT13 better than the current system, because you could only ROT13 ⁜cneg⁜ bs n cbfg and the remainder would give the reader context as to how the problematic bit was being used.

Then I realized that our old ROT13 system was an effective plaintext fallback for pbagrzcbenel Qvfpbeq-fglyr fcbvyre gntf and that I could just implement that in Mastodon, so I did.

GlitchCat users! You can now create inline spoilers in your posts by using a <spoiler-text> HTML tag in either the Markdown or HTML content modes. Spoilers ⁜can⁜ include emoji but ⁜cannot⁜ include other markup like links, mentions, or hashtags.

Spoilers federate as ROT13 with special properties so that other servers can recognize them. If you are on another Mastodon instance which supports Markdown and HTML content modes, let me know and I can get you a patch!

@aescling i try to satisfy it for greenfield code but not for stuff i want to keep in sync with upstream

we run linting on our mastodon fork but we ignore it

end Citizens United

« The McCarthy-aligned super PAC had a financial edge of nearly $90 million over its Democratic counterpart, almost entirely because 10 conservative families gave a combined total of more than $100 million. »

regarding biden’s use of the term “MAGA Republican”

« For years, Mr. Biden has been fond of saying that “this is not your father’s Republican Party” to highlight the G.O.P.’s rightward drift. But the consensus-seeking former senator was loath to paint with too broad a brush.

Informal conversations with historians helped change his mind.

The historians explained to Mr. Biden the power of labels and how they had been used in the past to successfully confront far-right factions, helping him gain comfort in publicly tagging Republican extremism as “MAGA Republicans,” according to a White House official who discussed the issue with him. A study by Biden allies identified “MAGA” as the most effective label — a phrase connoting “extreme,” “power-hungry” and “radical” for some voters. »

i have a really good impa/zelda interaction slash ventpost sitting in my notes folder but i don't know how to turn it into a story so there it remains

@noelle but by “small” they probably mean like, 50, and that's a different question

@noelle i think their sense of “small” is different than my sense of “small”

if your instance has five people or less you really don't need to worry that much about moderation unless you have some Very Popular Users; your posts simply don't get that much reach

i mean you still want to moderate of course but it's a matter of blocking the biggest worst offenders and maybe keeping an occasional eye on the fediblock tag

bigger instances NEED to moderate more, because bigger network, so of course they do, so i can see why someone might want to piggyback off of them… but also they frequently are not up to that burden and really need better tooling themselves

@extinct@nitecrew.rip it's so much easier to moderate a small instance because you just have fewer connections to worry about and also you're not a target of anyone; it's the big instances who really need the investment in moderation technologies right now

me: am i ace? i just really have no interest in [straight sex thing] at all

me: oh right i’m a dyke
