most JavaScript tutorials read to me in a way i can honestly only describe as contemptuous; they obscure basic language features on the assumption that readers are not capable of understanding them, really a reflection of the fact that the post author does not feel comfortable explaining them or does not understand them themselves

and i conceptualize some things very differently than what i usually see discussed

i’m not what i would call an expert in ECMAScript (for which i think you pretty much have to be directly involved in JavaScript engine development) but i’m pretty sure i know more than most people who write introductory/educational posts regarding the language

this morning i was thinking that maybe i should write a series of introductory/educational posts for ECMAScript

of course there are responsible ways of approaching XY&Z but at some point you have to admit that everything around you is specifically designed to encourage you to be irresponsible

i think in general we live in a society which is designed to make it very difficult to do anything in moderation

“what critical framework is this zine using and what are its political aims” that’s what i would like to know

anyway shipping discourse is wild these people never phone in to say “hi can you please explain to me whether this zine will allow stories which glorify capitalism/colonialism/the destruction of the environment”

the person i’m subtooting says « You can’t say ‘it depends on the portrayal’ when there’s some things that can’t be portrayed properly because of what the dynamic is as a whole » and they’re so close and yet so far

just reads as a real lack of perspective to me

there are people for whom “comfortable” representations in fiction have never existed

there are people for whom a “comfortable” representation in fiction never could

if i were running a fanzine and somebody messaged me like “I don't necessarily feel comfortable joining this zine if stuff like X/Y or W/Z is allowed” i think i would respond like “thank you for your interest; i highly encourage you to take the time you would have invested in this zine reading actual books”
