@witchfynder_finder maybe it was intentionally making him look horny to like, emphasize his teenageness and lack of control over his visions but it just felt largely incongruous with the rest of his character to me
@witchfynder_finder “Dune accidentally makes teenage protagonist look horny” is probably my biggest beef with it off the top of my head
@witchfynder_finder if somebody was paying me a take‐author’s meagre salary i could probably come up with something
@witchfynder_finder i feel like i could come up with some takes about dune but i have better things to do with my time than criticize a perfectly cromulent movie
anyway i’m just thinking about how much nicer my relationships are with people when the things i have to do for them are little things like “remember a detail about their day” and not “finish that work project you’ve been putting off for like a week now which they really need you to have finished, like, yesterday”
it may have actually been more like 18 months, i forget which year this was and am really just guessing
remember that time when that one lesbian couple was like “actually it’s really hard to be both partners and coworkers and like we’re able to do it because we’re really on top of our shit but it’s not for most people” and then like six months later it came out that one of them was abusive and subsequently was put out on the streets
@witchfynder_finder i can get it, sure, it’s like quantification, and quantifying people is useful for capitalism, okay
but also like, degrees and experience and certifications are also useful for other things too, like not murdering a hundred people because you didn’t know how to build a bridge
character levels are more similar to academic credits than anything
@witchfynder_finder if you get good at something that’s doing a capitalism
@Satsuma i restate my question
@witchfynder_finder i remember seeing this take (like an actual paper i think) ages ago about how the reason why The Lord of the Rings, a series which nobody thought could be made into film, actually worked was because all the people involved in the production were already huge fans, so like, they intuitively knew which things fans would care about and what to preserve or cut
and i think Dune is in a similar boat; like, just hire somebody who loves the dang thing and let them make the movie they want to make
