how to put musical cues in written fiction

what even is the point of having queer characters if you don’t get to pit their queernesses against one another in a moment of heightened tension and drama

i think cis people would be absolutely terrified to publish this dialogue but i don’t give a fuck

i think this next episode of my pokémon fanfic definitely falls in the category of “shit i can only get away with because i’m trans”

@witchfynder_finder like i had the entire plot of the Matrix told to me before i ever saw it and that mostly only made me want to actually watch the Matrix

@witchfynder_finder spoilers only matter for bad movies because they make you not want to pay money to see the movie

you’re allowed to be angry at people using the wrong word for a given situation but it’s a little silly to be angry for misspelling a word when the spelling they use is more accurate, consistent, and sensible

it’s not “leafs” it’s “leaves”

it ought to be “wreathes”

Show thread

wait but why aren’t plurals of ‐th spelled with an E that’s bullshit

there’s like. the galarian slowking mind goop?? they can do better than that.

not enough body horror in pokémon

@aescling you just gotta jump in lol; i can help point you in the right directions but i think mastodev is easiest to learn by doing

pick an issue you want to accomplish and ask me about it, and i'll give you some pointers. then by the time you're done, you'll be familiar with that tiny piece of the code.

@aescling honestly i’ve done next to nothing so there's plenty for you to do

« Eat the bread during cooking to ward off hunger. »

@KitRedgrave heck you could throw together a command line interactive script that prompts you for a URL, comment, and related tags and pops out an XML file with a hotlink and appropriate metadata in a couple hours

add an index page of some sort and bam! you have something you can browse locally or publish to the web

@KitRedgrave you can probably do it cheaper and simpler if you’re willing to get your paws dirty with a little XML

@KitRedgrave i think leftism has a way of being anti‐expertise, like, pretending the only two options are dictatorship or total democracy, but like

you can call in experts, use their expertise, and still have their decisions be subject to the will of the people at the end of the day. you don’t have to get rid of specialization just because you want to have a people’s government.

@KitRedgrave there’s a difference between having every person with a stake actively contributing to a solution, and having every person with a stake voting on solutions and offering feedback to designers and implementers, and it’s acting in bad faith to use the failure of the former as a justification for not doing the latter

@KitRedgrave good design isn’t done by committee but it is approved by committee
