@alyssa @Lady today i learned the etymology of the english word “molest”; i find it pretty interesting that it is come to adopt the purrimary sense that it hath now

@aescling @alyssa no but obvious cognates that have a very different implication in english are usually the ones which one remembers

either:

• your latin classes were wholly impractical and never taught you how to say “this bothers me”, or

• a whole classroom of high school students were taught the word “molestō” and didn’t Immediately Make It A Big Deal

and either of these options feels sad to me

my latin textbook was translation heavy in comparison to modern language books but we still learned basic composition

@aescling @Lady la verdad que casi me olvidaba del significado diferente en inglés. no usaría ese término para el tema. y por supuesto, digo y oigo la palabra castellana a menudo.
