mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@alyssa @Lady today i learned the etymology of the english word “molest”; i find it pretty interesting that it is come to adopt the purrimary sense that it hath now

mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@aescling @alyssa i thought you took latin???

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@Lady @alyssa i do not remember every latin word

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@aescling @alyssa no but obvious cognates that have a very different implication in english are usually the ones which one remembers

either:

• your latin classes were wholly impractical and never taught you how to say “this bothers me”, or

• a whole classroom of high school students were taught the word “molestō” and didn’t Immediately Make It A Big Deal

and either of these options feels sad to me

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@Lady @alyssa we did not learn how to compose or speak; we just read texts

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@Lady @alyssa @aescling not at *all*!?

my latin textbook was translation heavy in comparison to modern language books but we still learned basic composition

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@Satsuma @Lady @alyssa i won’t say “at all” but it was not at all a focus of my classes

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@aescling @Satsuma @alyssa well if you ever want me to cobble together an actual practical spanish learning class lmk but it does mean you have to actually do your homework and class assignments

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@aescling @Satsuma @alyssa i am NOT doing class prep for a class size of 2 if half of them won't turn in their work at the start of the period

@alyssa @aescling @Lady did u add the flashcards or just download the app

@aescling @Satsuma @alyssa you’re really bad at doing things you don’t feel like doing huh

@aescling @Satsuma @alyssa protip: don’t buy a house it is constant doing things you don’t feel like doing

@aescling @Lady una manera de enseñanza re clásica

¿es eficaz? qué sé yo?

mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@aescling @Lady la verdad que casi me olvidaba del significado diferente en inglés. no usaría ese término para el tema. y por supuesto, digo y oigo la palabra castellana a menudo.

mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

re: mentioning sexual assault as an idea without warning ig lol

@aescling @alyssa @Lady i remember learning the word molestar in one of my spanish classes in high school and being stunned
