@rigormorphis yeah i’m not even a hockey fan and i would be irritated by that!

@soph_sol i got the vibe that the sub is uncomfortable talking about cracking DRM which is often necessary in those cases—there’s juuuuust enough discussions of paper etc that just happen have no specifics as to the book(s) being printed attached

covid, asking for advice

@skippingmoonrocks as for taking care of yourself: if you have a daily pill regimen, adding cetirizine (or another daily antihistamine) and melatonin (at night obv) may somewhat reduce your transmissibility and risk of getting long covid. The obvious stuff like resting, trying to eat whatever you can keep down, & drinking lots of fluids (bonus if they’re partially pedialyte/gatorade/skratch/your electrolyte of choice here) are all also important. especially the REST bit! really try not to push yourself both while sick and in the coming weeks when you’re no longer sick but still recovering.

Reducing transmission: air purifiers and masking with an n95 (or your local equivalent standard) are the best ways of reducing transmission within a space. Unfortunately expensive esp on short notice but if you don’t already have them reach out to your community and see if anyone can deliver at least box of masks (both masks and air purifier is better though.) Keep yourself an d your germs to one area where your housemates don’t go (pref one with an air purifier) as much as possible—ask your people to deliver you food & drinks as much as they can, so you don’t have to enter the common areas as often (they can leave it outside the door to your room or come in and put it somewhere whilst masked). If you have to enter common areas, wear an n95 mask. Encourage your housemates to mask as much as they can. If you can use a separate bathroom from them, do.

@campbell psychology / building confidence presumably

@imp @westie @kate i think i have also read this and, honestly, i would reread it. Bruce Wayne doing bits that embarrass his kids is Bruce Wayne at his finest

food

@twistylittlepassages yeah the weather took a sudden turn cold last night, so we are definitely those kinds of wanting nice warm winter foods here—no soup but we did have colcannon for dinner (mashed potatoes mixed with greens essentially) which is similarly warm and cozy

@maxleibman or all too frequently, not so much choosing to spend their money on something else as having less money to spend in the first place—much like all those industries which millennials supposedly killed, people keeping their devices longer probably *is* related to weakness in the economy but its a result of it not the cause

@imp sounds like they were doomed to be a holiday baby no matter what, and thanksgiving is *probably* better than xmas/new years week

@weirdestate maybe there’s a rope ladder that’s just been pulled up or something????

@electrocutie it’s true they don’t grow true to seed, but i’ve still had plenty of perfectly tasty apples that were grown from seed! this is how most new varieties of apples were developed actually—planting thousands of plants and then seeing if any came out more delicious than their parents

@hoja @aescling anyway hoja, apparently your mistake was just asking kitty about her stance on filioque instead of teaching kitty about the history of christian theology via memes

@hoja @aescling Tome to Flavian pissed some people off so badly they schismed and formed the a whole new church about it (known as the Oriental Orthodox Churches today)

@hoja absolutely do not blame me i had nothing to do with this

@soph_sol barbecuing pineapple does also caramelize the sugars a bit which is *also* delicious, so its worth doing even if you aren’t bothered by protease or the enzymes have already otherwise been denatured
