@Anke at least for me, these sorts of defaults are a mix of habit and a sort of “path of least resistance” so if there are things you can change that make social media a little more difficult (having to log in every time?) or sketching a little easier (keep your sketching stuff all together in an easy to spot/grab spot?) that might help tip the scales a little bit
Like my post re:the ways in which the OTW’s silence & deflection serves to deflect accountability it’s definitely a bit of a broader perspective on the issue but I think its helpful if you are (reasonably) baffled about how the hell we ended up needing to resort to a protest to get the OTW to keep promises they themselves made three entire years ago
#EndOTWRacism rec of the day is chestnut_pod’s exploration of some of the underlying structural issues which have made it so difficult to get the OTW to do anything about racism on Ao3, as well as some of the steps it would have to take to make good on the campaign promises. There’s a lively discussion going on in the comments with various further perspectives on the OTWs structure & how that relates to their continued inaction re:racism
@runpunkrun @bluedreaming i’m the same way sometimes haha
@yesterdaychild nice! and you absolutely do, enjoy your smugness haha
@mirisierra happy birthday!
@yesterdaychild asdlk how could i argue with yoongi
if your friend still needs encouragement, my ‘obviously she likes you’ situations have always ended up working out haha
@yesterdaychild i feel called out 😂
@varve ah thats disappointing—though hopefully maybe there are some other folks who just didn’t know about it yet?
mine have been kind of uneven—Guardian has a lot of people who are participating, except also there’s an exchange that just ended during the campaign and clearly no one was comfortable putting notices on their gift fics. which I do get! but also means any fics participating were pretty firmly buried
@varve oof yeah its sad to loose a reader & a shame they’re so close minded but also yeah, better to have them gone now than latter
@soph_sol i feel you on this! it’s so frustrating to me, when people design nearly plastic-perfect lawns instead of trying for something a little more ecologically friendly
the good news is even really tiny improvements like mowing the grass a little taller/less often & switching to a turf mix thats got some wildflowers in with the grass ( eg. https://extension.umn.edu/landscape-design/planting-and-maintaining-bee-lawn ) can have dramatic effects in how much ecological diversity an area can support! So even if you can’t convince the city (or people/groups that maintain individual green-spaces within the city) to completely switch approaches, the small changes are still worth fighting for
re: modern love languages
@pamela work friends are definitely an area where mutual commiseration is an especially valuable friend dynamic! its so helpful to have people like that
@thedeadparrot very excited to blow myself up in ridiculous ways once i finally buy it in june
modern love languages
@pamela i also wanna say calendar friends who you have a shared hobby with are some of the absolute best people when you’re Going Through Some Shit. Sometimes you’re tired of talking about it and have no emotional bandwidth left and just want to have someone call you for a chat about that show you both watch, or play a board game with you, and just….keep doing that regularly as long as you need it
modern love languages
@pamela a few more:
second opinion friend (the one who you trust enough to go to with “hey am i maybe in the wrong here?” questions)
logistical organizer (can come in flavors, eg “figures out the scheduling” and “books the tickets/hotel rooms/etc”)
food as love (bonus: has learned how to accommodate your dietary restrictions)
mutual commiseration over [shared experience]
what i’ve been working on lately
