I've already boosted some far more eloquent posts by others, but I finally managed to put some thoughts down on #EndOTWRacism and how the OTW seems to have made a habit of dodging accountability by refusing to make any sort of public comment on controversial issues: https://satsuma.dreamwidth.org/25796.html
The short version is I'm in favor of the campaign and encourage anyone who uses the OTW's services (namely, fanlore and Ao3) to take part.
Or, skip my perspective and go straight to the campaign's own call to action: https://end-otw-racism.tumblr.com/post/716978822501875712/fandom-against-racism-a-manifesto
@cyberia@octodon.social some of it really depends where you’re going
if you know how you’re planning to get around (public transport, local friends car, taxis, etc) I would double check what you need for that in advance so you don’t have to risk getting stranded — for example SEPTA (Philadelphian public transport) is cash or you have to buy a physical transport card, while for NYC you can just pay directly with any contactless credit/debit card
@XanIndigo yeah sounds about right 😅
actually i think this ones meant to emulate tweetdeck which i’m not sure is even open source? but still very much a “poweruser techy who cares more about Doing All The Things than an easy to learn UI”
@XanIndigo it predates the simplified interface by several years — i no longer remember the exact timeline but yeah for a while it was the only option and then it was the default
@XanIndigo when i joined fedi that was the default view which is why ive always been an app first user
@asya honestly you did an excellent job of conveying the experience of looking at that sweater haha
@asya havent emotionally recovered enough to comment on the actual image so will continue fixating on small details for the time being
@asya re: your image description i think its supposed to be a horse based on the pose of the legs????? but yeah that face is…not horselike lmao
@maya i would assume it’d end up with features closer to a creole?
both in that one is adapting existing linguistic patterns from the source languages, and that the adaptation is being carried out through natural use as opposed to a consciously formulated ruleset
oops!
@Lady it didnt do being silly with polls first but like. it did do literally exactly ooops! all vanilla extract
oops!
@Lady in which fedi recreates a tumblr meme
@platypus not enough trees, clearly!
@inametaphor 🎉🎉🎉
I wont be able to attend in person, alas, but I hope you have fun!!!

@Lady sometimes i think i missed my true calling as a reference librarian
@runpunkrun yeah the length of how much you can see is REALLY random which def adds to the frustration
but yeah any kind of exchange/group action/etc where you’re expecting people off tumblr to need to access a good bit of the content unfortunately just has to be on a custom theme to make that work. which sucks :/
@runpunkrun it only comes up when you’ve scrolled a bit (how much scrolling….varies because why would tumblr be consistent about anything)
which also means its a bigger issue on mobile, bc the screen is smaller and you need to scroll more. For that particular post I can see the post but got the popup when i tried to keep scrolling down to the notes
but as a totally random example that in no way inspired this post, i can’t read the whole pinned post when linked to https://www.tumblr.com/end-otw-racism
@Forestofglory @villainousfriend i think it rotates through a couple options in english? but they are all kinda weird and condescending yeah
@aegtx yes there are also some other options to let people restrict access to their blogs for privacy reasons but i generally assume anyone using those is doing it on purpose so i didn’t include them here
i can screenshot the setting i’m talking about later for you but it’s a per-blog setting
