« But 24 hours with Gender Trouble has refined the screaming in my head to a very clear proposition that has nothing to do with anything I was thinking before I opened the book: there are some things that are hard for no reason and there are some things that are hard for a reason. » web technology is hard for a reason

kind of upset how much i am liking this Katelyn Tarver album on repeat

you say you listen to queer elders? ok name five of their songs

when i found out about mastodon it was because it was (a) new, (b) during the 2016 presidential election / immediate aftermath, and (c) queer techies were talking about it

(a) and (b) are not true anymore and the only people in the (c) camp are either already on mastodon or hate it

Show thread

how did young people even find out about mastodon like did they read an article or……?

like, you do realize this is a fictional character, you are not actually consigning a real person to this fate, it’s just a story

Show thread

my opinion is that fire emblem fans who carefully orchestrate their playthroughs to give their characters specific endings are a strange lot

might as well just throw “functions” in there too; that’s basically the whole language

Show thread

imagine writing a javascript tutorial and just assuming that if your reader understands “arrays”, “objects”, and “basics of classes” that will be fine

Show thread

congratulations, you just named most of the things in JavaScript which you can’t assume work like in other programming languages

most JavaScript tutorials read to me in a way i can honestly only describe as contemptuous; they obscure basic language features on the assumption that readers are not capable of understanding them, really a reflection of the fact that the post author does not feel comfortable explaining them or does not understand them themselves

Show thread

and i conceptualize some things very differently than what i usually see discussed

Show thread

i’m not what i would call an expert in ECMAScript (for which i think you pretty much have to be directly involved in JavaScript engine development) but i’m pretty sure i know more than most people who write introductory/educational posts regarding the language

Show thread

this morning i was thinking that maybe i should write a series of introductory/educational posts for ECMAScript

of course there are responsible ways of approaching XY&Z but at some point you have to admit that everything around you is specifically designed to encourage you to be irresponsible

Show thread

i think in general we live in a society which is designed to make it very difficult to do anything in moderation

“what critical framework is this zine using and what are its political aims” that’s what i would like to know
