GlitchCat is a good instance and its WebFinger doesn’t even spontaneously break anymore

hacking mastodon to display all counts using binary prefixes

oh i missed the benchmark but i have now posted a kibi toots

“federating” in only the loosest sense, as in we saw each other on the street one time

Show thread

i can’t really ask questions like “how on earth are we federating with X instance” seeing as the answer is probably “somebody boosted your toot to there”

it’s nothing personal*, i would block an Obama instance too

* this is a lie

anyway the sheer hubris of beginning the domain name of your mastodon instance with ‹ mobile. › is boggling me

Show thread

i’m not going to search for vlad because he has secure fetch turned on and i don’t really want him to know about this instance

Show thread

are you aware that the scripts you injected into this page aren’t working

Show thread

is donald trump really trying to deploy a mastodon instance without complying with the terms of the GNU Affero General Public License

which personally is not something i would necessarily want to draw attention to without concrete ideas for how to improve the situation

just gonna say that most people do not use computers for ideological reasons, they use computers because they have things they want to accomplish

if people use computers in a way which does not line up with how your ideology thinks computers should be, that is a damning indictment of either :—

1. the people who share your ideological commitments, or

2. the ideology itself

—: and their/its ability to actually meet people’s real material needs

« Associations are extremely useful, but they are not magic. » unlike everything else in Rails

i’m rereading all the Rails Guides since i haven’t worked seriously with Rails since sometime in 2018 and like 90% of it is just me going “oh so that’s what that spelling means” and the remaining 10% is me digging through the source code and becoming gradually more horrified at what i unearth there

Show thread

okay i’m gonna admit i thought there was going to be more to this chapter than there is

« During the normal operation of a Rails application, objects may be created, updated, and destroyed. » whew imagine if they mayn’t be
