@wallhackio @aescling @coriander i have never seen a 3D animated film do a long, lingering shot on the scenery and have it land and until it does i do not respect the medium

@00dani it was directed by the guy who did Pokémon: Twilight Wings??

@aescling @wallhackio @coriander my understanding was that nobody has seen across the spiderverse since the second half of it isn’t even thru production yet

@00dani it does not

i have heard good things but i find it hard to believe it is anywhere on the level of takahata

the tale of princess kaguya

@wallhackio Star Wars is in reference to the single movie titled Star Wars not the entire series

@wallhackio but know that i spent an uncomfortably long time considering Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

@wallhackio

• The Tale of Princess Kaguya
• Red Cliff
• The Lord of the Rings
• The Sting
• Star Wars
• Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

@coriander @MmeLibertine (also for the sake of honesty i will admit to being a little bit thirsty for sheik and impa)

@coriander @MmeLibertine idk, i am pretty sure ganondorf wanted to punt Link, maybe they are going for a postcolonial reading

@coriander @MmeLibertine mostly right now i am just salty at all the gamers calling it hyperrealistic as though the real world were a hypersaturated Skyrim wallpaper

@coriander @MmeLibertine i am personally withholding judgment both because Zelda game aesthetics are always controversial when they first drop and because it could be that this one just doesn't compress well to Youtube or whatever, or they could improve it by launch, or it could come from a regrettable technical limitation of Switch 2 hardware and in the future we all look back on it the same way we look back on the bad graphics of the original OoT with a certain level of fondness. whatever. i withhold judgement

but my first impression was yikes. i am trying to push back on that a bit and appraise it critically because a·i art looking like your art is unfair and demoralizing to experience as an artist when you actually are trying to do something interesting. but my first impression was yikes

@coriander @MmeLibertine look i fully believe that the Zelda team poured their heart and soul into the new Ocarina of Time because it was the first Zelda game that Aonuma ever worked on. it has been studied back and forth by that development team and every time they talk about it you get the sense they all love it to bits. Aonuma desperately wants it to connect to today’s gamers even tho he is terrified that they will not understand the design sensibilities and hate it for not being Breath of the Wild 3.

that said. that all said. you can love something and still have bad taste
