@coriander @MmeLibertine look i fully believe that the Zelda team poured their heart and soul into the new Ocarina of Time because it was the first Zelda game that Aonuma ever worked on. it has been studied back and forth by that development team and every time they talk about it you get the sense they all love it to bits. Aonuma desperately wants it to connect to today’s gamers even tho he is terrified that they will not understand the design sensibilities and hate it for not being Breath of the Wild 3.

that said. that all said. you can love something and still have bad taste

@aescling forgejo just shows it as part of the message body; i don¦t push my code anywhere else

did you know that Zippo once released a free iPhone app simulating a lighter which was at one time one of the most popular free app downloads on the iTunes store

breath of the wild and twilight princess were both way more interested in realism than this game is!! use better words!!

not to raise too much of a fuss but have the people saying the new Zelda game uses “realistic shaders” walked outside? it doesn’t look anything like that

@wallhackio to be clear i think they largely made the correct choice. Kokiri Forest SHOULD look like Peter Pan and garden gnomes and have maximalist textures and fairy light visual clutter. i am not sold on the execution but i understand the vision here

but it also looks like somebody asked an a·i to enhance a screenshot of Ocarina of Time

@wallhackio the visual direction of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2

what is that you say? artificial intelligence image generators have largely been trained by SF/F nerds who love maximalist storybook fantasy art and computer generated imagery? i don¦t see what that has to do with my video game

Show thread

i am going to lean ALL IN on a maximalist storybook fantasy ✕ garden gnome aesthetic in the CGI imagery in my video game. there is absolutely no way this could possibly backfire on me

@coriander @wallhackio his presentation reminds me of my weird uncle so i am immune

@wallhackio @coriander just watch it caleb you¦ve played Three Houses it¦s close enough
