one of the more difficult conlanging problems is acquiring good lists of words with a reasonable semantic distribution so you don’t wind up with 50 words for travel but can’t talk about what you ate for breakfast, or whatever

so anyway i have some lists of words

re: cnpol question

@akjcv take all of this with a grain of salt ofc ofc it’s just been my experience as a Westerner while trying to learn about China

re: cnpol question

@akjcv mmMMM not sure who would be the one to make that, honestly

people living and working in China and with Chinese people are going to prioritize continuing being able to do that over writing critiques for a national or international audience

people not living or working in China are happy to write those critiques, but do not have a Chinese perspective

this is overstated. but the last thing anyone trying to successfully accomplish anything in China wants to do is embarrass the country on an international stage, and you have to understand there are people at the New York Times just WAITING for this kind of report so that they can spin it in exactly that way. if i were a smart LGBT org in China, i would not want to hand that to them?

re: cnpol question

@akjcv i feel like the sticking point here is that a lot of national Chinese policy is about things like media censorship and a lot of day-to-day stuff is handled by the 33 regions of varying autonomy

synthesizing a Take across all of china of what conditions are like in each of those 33 regions is still going to take some legwork; Shanghai isn’t going to be the same as Hulunbuir

cnpol question

@akjcv also i’m not sure they’re recent enough to cover much of Xi; that’s the sort of thing it will take a few decades to sort out

i mean, i’m not confident i could say what trans rights were like in the U·S under Obama or Trump, and i lived it

cnpol question

@akjcv i have some books on gender in china but i’d have to reread them to see if they go beyond womens rights

@aescling @wallhackio deno fmt and deno lint are good reasons to like deno
