@aescling oh this is just the beginning

otw discord fiasco / subtoot

there i wrote the post for you that’s what you should be saying if you give a shit about the otw at all

otw discord fiasco / subtoot

“although i don't have the power to moderate this server, as an otw volunteer i want to say that i am deeply embarrassed that this conversation was allowed to develop the way it did. i can’t speak for the otw, but on a personal level i want plural fans to know that i respect them and will always try to ensure they have a space here. i will be speaking with my supervisors to stress the need for an apology, and if you have any further concerns i encourage you to reach out to me, understanding that i am only a lowly tag wrangler.”

“a conversation between 5 people” sure, in public, in a server with over 800

how are you not mortified??? how are you not doing everything you can right now to save face for your organization??

i’m upset and i don’t even care about the OTW. how do the people who literally volunteer there not see this as hugely embarrassing?? do they not realize that this is the first impression MANY / newbies are going to have of their board/process/meetings??

@coriander checked CA law because that is where my employer is located and apparently there it is required UNLESS you make at least twice the minimum wage

« 9. Uniforms and Equipment.

(A) When uniforms are required by the employer to be worn by the employee as a condition of employment, such uniforms shall be provided and maintained by the employer. The term "uniform" includes wearing apparel and accessories of distinctive design or color.

NOTE: This section shall not apply to protective apparel regulated by the Occupational Safety and
Health Standards Board.

(B) When tools or equipment are required by the employer or are necessary to the performance of a job, such tools and equipment shall be provided and maintained by the employer, except that an employee whose wages are at least two (2) times the minimum wage provided herein may be required to provide and maintain hand tools and equipment customarily required by the trade or craft. This subsection (B) shall not apply to apprentices regularly indentured under the State Division of Apprenticeship Standards.

NOTE: This section shall not apply to protective equipment and safety devices on tools regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board. »

which is better than nothing i guess but it should be required always in my opinion

@coriander is that not already legally required?? that should be legally required imo

@coriander jobs but fewer hours and more money and reimbursement for meals and travel to and from work, that's my platform

@coriander now if only we were paid what our labour was worth…

the so-called liberal “rights of man”

under socialism, these weights would be reversed, and designers would be mandated to facilitate the participation of ALL persons in society

Show thread

the so-called liberal “rights of man”

it is no surprise that freedom of speech (a private, egoistic concern) has trumped the right to hire a designer for your wedding (a concern primarily of participation in broader society); this is the expected outcome of liberalism

Show thread

the so-called liberal “rights of man”

remember that « none of the so‐called rights of men goes beyond the egoistic man, the man withdrawn into himself, his private interest and his private choice, and separated from the community as a member of civil society.  Far from viewing man here in his species‐being, his species‐life itself—society—rather appears to be an external framework for the individual, limiting his original independence. The only bond between men is natural necessity, need and private interest, the maintenance of their property and egoistic persons. »
