why receive jesus into your life when you could receive objects 53% (74338/138341)

oh god in copying this git directory it, uh, changed the mode of every single file, so the git diff is just

diff --git a/storybook/webpack.config.js b/storybook/webpack.config.js
old mode 100644
new mode 100755

for every single file in the entire mastodon repository

function fish_prompt
set -l quotes "Hey babe, what's up? " "What can I do you for? " "Pleasant weather today, huh? " "How are you feeling? " "What are you in the mood for? " "Let's get to work! "
set_color E91E63 brmagenta
echo $quotes[(random 1 (count $quotes))]
end

it's all dark and cold and shitty and vaguely foggy outside my window and i am living for it

Show thread

a while back i found an old flash drive which contained all the old code for the snow web client for mastodon that i developed as allie hart a while back, which i had kinda assumed was lost to time

might take a look at it one of these days

@maya the first; a motto is too short to represent anything to someone who doesn't already know what it means

@socrates eh, it's a larger issue with the fediverse honestly; there are people who i don't like and nobody here follows who are nevertheless permanent fixtures on our federated timeline because they make posts which get lots of replies

i don't like that pattern, i think it elevates the wrong kinds of posts, but i don't have any ideas off the top of my head on how to change it; mastodon needs a "reply only to original audience" post setting honestly

as far as posts from your instance goes, i've never seen anything horribly objectionable and it is nice to click the post and see that you're on top of it :). at the same time, if it weren't for the reply we probably never would have seen the post in the first place, so you know. it's up to you how you want to balance that and i won't have a problem either way

@socrates thanks for your hard work and i do appreciate it; just wanted to make sure you were aware of the federation consequences of replying to a post also federating the original :)

@socrates actually i don't think followers-only would help, it would have to be mentioned-only

Show thread

@socrates you may want to consider making those posts followers-only? (your call whether visibility of the post or not federating subpar content is more important)

Show thread

i appreciate the scholar.social admin replying to people who fuck up their image descriptions or don't use CWs on the public timeline or whatever but also it makes all of those posts federate here, meaning a disproportionate amount of the traffic we receive is from people who DON’T follow the rules

sure, buddy, people are not limited to the decisions of union management and could go wild and undermine the entire negotiations process, but also that would be foolish as fuck and mean they wouldn't have enough money to live, so

Show thread

okay i know i already said the thing about not being a CIA plant but are you really taking an ongoing strike for a living wage as an opportunity to say “fuck unions for being accommodationist”

@compufox surely this is something we can fix in glitch though? i know @aescling and i will definitely be working on it for our instance so if we get something working before anyone else does we’ll be sure to send it upstream

@noelle @FirstProgenitor there's a discord but no mastodon point of contact i don't think

@jupe this is pithy and inaccurate but a book is just a poem where every line is a chapter

start by thinking about how you want your ideas to be structured and how you might put them together in a way which “rhymes” and “resonates”. get a solid structure that you feel confident in (but don't force yourself to follow it too closely). figure out what the structure is “saying” and why it's important

then just fill it out with enough words to make it work
