@coriander the term sensitivity training implies that it is workplace-based which is probably accurate to how such a thing would need to be implemented in the united states
especially assuming Not Immediate Magical Full State Communism, building communist workplaces, requiring workers to be educated in and follow communist principles in their work lives, and requiring that people who don't abide by those principles suffer workplace penalties (with ready access to training for correcting behaviour) is probably the most expedient way to get lots of people introduced to the necessary concepts quickly
@aescling you can tell i'm a 90s/00s kid because i just really like hearing jon stewart’s voice
in the 90s and 00s teachers were extremely explicit that under absolutely no circumstances were you allowed to moonwalk at a school dance
morning of america is a great song and it covers exactly my feelings regarding this subject only shifted by a decade https://bluescholars.bandcamp.com/track/morning-of-america
the fancoders discord was feeling weird about the 2000s being labelled vintage yesterday and i really wanted to respond like
in the 2000s the Daily Show with Jon Stewart had a recurring bit with an Elmo puppet regarding the indefinite detention without trial of military prisoners at Guantanamo Bay [still not closed btw]
if every word of that sentence doesn't feel hella vintage to you, i want to live in the world you’re living in
remember when we used to wage wars in the name of democracy? oh what’s that we still do?
this is probably still far too many and i would be better off if i just stuck to like, six or eight, but:
1) oftentimes the mons i like the most take a while to get to, so it’s good to have others until you get to that point
2) there are over a thousand pokémon so if i only used six i would simply not be able to use a great many of them
3) i would have a very hard time deciding on six without using a bunch of them and seeing which i like the vibes of the best
@coriander you may be interested in this open-access article which prompted these thoughts but is way more well-reasoned about it than my posts on mastodon https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tics.2022.09.015
@coriander yeah i would just say “ordering information relatively or absolutely is an aesthetic preference” though, with the understanding that:
1. if you asked specifically for a relative or absolute ordering, both communities (English and that studied) could produce both, and
2. aesthetic preferences DO influence information storage and retrieval in the brain (it is easier to remember things we find aesthetically pleasing than things we do not)
this is tied into an underlying belief of mine that aesthetics is actually way more important than most scientists think it is, so when i say language determines aesthetics i’m not at all trying to diminish the power of language
did illumination take all their cues not from the original super mario bros but from ubisoft mario rabbids
