@witchfynder_finder agreed, earth is also a part of nature and a pretty important one, too me
@witchfynder_finder the stance against resource extraction etc on other planets makes more sense when you think of it as “every action a capitalist takes on a foreign planet that a communist wouldn't is a loss of a part of nature that we will never get back”
of course this needs to be weighed against other needs, but the most expedient solution is simply to end capitalism before these questions become relevant
@witchfynder_finder i think what people primarily fear is not man reaching other planets, but capitalism
@witchfynder_finder marx says that when man is alienated from its labour and consequently from itself, as under capitalism, it ceases to view itself as part of nature and rather nature becomes a means to an end for man
resolving the alienation of labour from man also resolves the alienation of man from man, resolving the alienation of man from nature
in such a world, man and nature need not be viewed as competing forces but rather as working in harmony. expanding the reach of man is merely expanding the harmonization of man with the natural world
« In abstraction, however, and separated from the remaining sphere of human activities and turned into final and sole ends, they are animal functions. »
@noelle ok but what’s the reward

« Apart from this mediation, objects lose their value. They have value only insofar as they REPRESENT it while originally it appeared that the mediation would have value only insofar as IT represents OBJECTS. »
however this is not to say that the freeing of the source code is not an important step, in that it weakens the hold of big business on technology and enables workers to organize separately
the important insight is that this freedom is merely a transitional stepping-point, not an end goal
implementing the latter rights would likely require not a freeing of the source code but a controlling of it in an explicitly structured and political manner
the major insight of Marx as i have read him so far is that the liberal so-called rights of man (for example, the four freedoms of the free software movement) are concerned entirely with individual rights to do individual things with individual objects (you may run the software, you may study the software, you may share the software, you may modify the software and share your modifications)
as opposed to expressing rights of people *in community*, (for example the right to participate in a software community, the right to have that community take into account your human needs, the right for your work within that community to be free of alienation or exploitation…)
sometimes i write zelda fics to poke fun at cis white women, in which case Zelda is a cis white woman par excellence, but other times i do not, in which case it is really hard for me not to question her cis womanhood
she was also like “what do you mean Eiscue is the penguin pokémon how the fuck do they know what a penguin is” so i guess she's a real pokémon fan now
