isn’t the whole point of an NFT ownership and isn’t the whole point of the web open access

just feel like i need to make sure people know this in 2021 for some reason

Web 3.0 is the thing where you can type in a question to Siri and Siri asks Wikipedia and then pulls metadata from the info box at the top of the page and then comes back to you with an answer

it’s the thing where you can run a decentralized service which talks to thousands of other decentralized services because instead of publishing things in plaintext you’re using an agreed-upon, extensible vocabulary to annotate your posts with the information computers need to process it

that’s what Web 3.0 is

Show thread

you all know web 3.0 is Linked Data-based technologies like Mastodon right

like the creator of the internet said that like two decades ago

it’s on the Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic

would you follow me into the darkness
stay by my side, and fight with me

maybe i should… play video games?

my opinion is that if discord had financial sense and was willing to listen to reason or the interests of its customerbase, they would not be investigating integrating cryptocurrency with their platform in the first place

Show thread

for clarity i am not criticizing people who use discord or have discord nitro, i am criticizing people who are paying real money for a service they clearly do not need and are willing to give up for a vain political statement

Show thread

i’d cancel my discord nitro to send a message to discord devs not to support NFTs, except:

• no i wouldn’t
• i don’t have discord nitro

@KitRedgrave feels almost like the same could be said of capitalism

@Satsuma i think frankenstein is probably one of the chief sources of inspiration for steampunk automaton narrative

@Satsuma i think if you dig into like, steampunk literature though, a lot of automatons do indeed have feelings and capacity for independent action

@Satsuma original question was chat.noelle.codes/@noelle/1072 although i was thinking more broadly in terms of “supernaturally animated construct (probably anthropomorphic in nature)”

@witchfynder_finder i mean it makes it a lot easier to attend games

@Satsuma but this is actually the result of me thinking about non‐golem automatons in contemporary fiction in response to a question by ellie about terminology for them

@Satsuma anyway in bionicle lore it is the spark of life inside their chest which makes them animate, which is akin to the electrical shock which makes the creature come to life
