@witchfynder_finder all writers who use subtext are cowards but all readers who fail to read subtext are fools
“kibi that’s obviously very gay”, you might say, but you know? i would similarly say that there is a lot of christianity in the chronicles of narnia
« She used to place her pretty arms about my neck, draw me to her, and laying her cheek to mine, murmur with her lips near my ear, "Dearest, your little heart is wounded; think me not cruel because I obey the irresistible law of my strength and weakness; if your dear heart is wounded, my wild heart bleeds with yours. In the rapture of my enormous humiliation I live in your warm life, and you shall die–die, sweetly die–into mine. I cannot help it; as I draw near to you, you, in your turn, will draw near to others, and learn the rapture of that cruelty, which yet is love; so, for a while, seek to know no more of me and mine, but trust me with all your loving spirit."
And when she had spoken such a rhapsody, she would press me more closely in her trembling embrace, and her lips in soft kisses gently glow upon my cheek. »
« Young people like, and even love, on impulse. I was flattered by the evident, though as yet undeserved, fondness she showed me. I liked the confidence with which she at once received me. She was determined that we should be very near friends.
Next day came and we met again. I was delighted with my companion; that is to say, in many respects.
Her looks lost nothing in daylight–she was certainly the most beautiful creature I had ever seen, and the unpleasant remembrance of the face presented in my early dream, had lost the effect of the first unexpected recognition. » it’s fiction; don’t read too deeply into it
@witchfynder_finder the first book would have ended in some horrible relationship disaster instead of “look the man with a turban has another evil man hidden inside there”
@witchfynder_finder like it still would have been trash to be clear
@witchfynder_finder harry potter would have been much improved if it had been written by john green
@witchfynder_finder honestly i think we’re still struggling to convince people that there exist things that movies can be “about”
@witchfynder_finder well they know how to watch marvel movies
@witchfynder_finder in seriousness i think there is a way in which DUNE relies on you kind of being able to parse its structure and anticipate the ways in which the things it is doing now will be important later
like the scene at the beginning where Paul is talking with his dad about taking on the leadership of House Atreides, i saw that and i immediately knew that this was a story about his arc as a character and various tensions with him growing into that role, and so it was important and significant to me
but if you didn’t like, get that, then you might just be like “why are these people talking about random political bullshit i don’t care”
@witchfynder_finder there was this one scene where the film was like trying to explain stuff which is important for understanding the movie, and i thought it was boring so i didn’t pay any attention; anyway i don’t understand why everybody thought DUNE was so good

Been a hot minute since i’ve done one of these so here you go!
§ Instance News
• It was a while ago, but the configuration bug which was leading our WebFinger to sometimes go down due to a logging error has been fixed!
• Daylight Savings Time has ended in North America! Set your clocks back, or don’t out of protest. 🕚
• Some of you may have heard rumour of some accounts mentioning a bunch of users and generally being harassing. Far as I know, nobody here has been affected, but if you ever have any problems let me know!
• Relatedly, I’ve recently gone and blocked a fair number of instances.
• Relatedly relatedly, while I haven’t silenced any instances solely for having open registrations ⁜yet⁜, it’s a factor which I will likely take into account in the future.

if frame N has

and frame N+1 has

React doesn’t know whether to add the third Die before or after the second one, because they’re identical. adding a key just helps it figure out which Die is the new one and which one is the old.
