hmm i would like to write a zelda fanfic

@coriander other fantasy authors, apparently, since they seem to struggle when emulating that bit

middle earth was neither a utopia nor a dystopia but merely a historic age which preceded this one, full of people who looked to the future with equal parts hope and despair

@coriander stephenie meyer wrote a Twilight from Edward’s perspective and all the reviewers were like “yeah so I hate him now”

@coriander see the thing that Twilight fans know is that this trope only works when it’s not the protagonist

@coriander or is the danger not from inside the house

i guess if it's other people it's batman

subtooting a N·Y·Times graphic

ah yes, famed middle eastern country, The United States

in fairness the reason we have to call it “Latin” is because “Roman” contrasts with “Italic”

wikipedia talk pages are FULL of pedants convinced that “the Latin alphabet” means not “the system of letters spread by the Romans and adopted widely across Europe and other regions” but, specifically, “the system of letters used to write the Latin language”

« I am skeptical about the assertion that this is "a letter of the Latin alphabet". Since when did Latin ever have pharyngeals? Or voiced fricatives for that matter? Unless I am very badly misinformed, someone must have added (or proposed adding) this letter at some later point in time for some purpose entirely unrelated to Latin. »

@aescling but what about all the raccoons who can’t transform?

ppl complain about the industry pushing artists to write songs which are more tiktok-friendly or whatever, as tho it’s a sign of how bad music is these days, but dawg, in 2003 they added a male rapper to “Bring Me To Life”

@chr furry setting but humans are used in a specifically dehumanizing manner, for example cops are humans and not furries

RTF

@aschmitz kind of neither, in the sense that i’m talking less about passive eyewitnesses to events and more about events which require social context and collaboration to attain meaning

(we just watched “The Wedding Banquet”, which involves a lot of people lying to each other in a way which actually turns out mostly ok)

i don’t actually think it’s necessary that every person share the same story of what happened, or that any of those stories actually be objectively true

@coriander “morality is what happens in the story, not how that story engages with the real world”
