« Neither girl seemed to notice that the clouds above them were beginning to grow in size and darken significantly … Before she could inquire further though, she felt something hit her head. Then another thing, then another. Tiny little plinks. The girl looked up, finally noticing the dark clouds as more water began to drip out of the sky. »

« Practitioners and proponents of OER can be viewed as paralleling the captive maternal dynamic in that they are trying to stabilize an educational system that has been systematically hollowed out through neoliberal practices. In their efforts to care for students, OER practitioners are creating mechanisms that enable the neoliberal state to continue implementing austerity measures. The labor of creating and deploying OER is, per James, labor that is being expropriated by the state. »

article is kind of loudly and inelegantly stating the obvious but this was a good paragraph

unsure whether i have an actual stance against “rich” editing experiences or just can’t be bothered to create them

@coriander idk i feel like growing up when people made reference to Icarus they were making a comparison with the greek myth but now everyone uses it to mean Icarian Personality Disorder and i think this is the worse timeline

@coriander mm, well, probably not exactly what you’re going for, but similar vibes in ways i think

@coriander (they are narnia’d when they take a tumble over the eponymous garden wall)

@gaditb

re:①, i think the specific thoughts need to decend from material conditions which can only be analysed from the standpoint of a certain class. one of the big flaws in mastodon design from the beginning has been the assumption that all users are equivalent and have interchangeable needs, and i think step one should have been identifying actual classes of user, figuring out what their actual needs are, and then negotiating from there a system which can serve them

re:②, in my experience i think getting political power is the harder problem. there definitely were people thinking and talking about governance structures but none of them ever went anywhere because there was no power to execute on them

@gaditb hm, but what if i think the lack of definition and organization regarding specific “we”s is what ultimately prevented us from building solidarity across those differences and putting a better system in place

@coriander nobody gives a fuck if you pop into hot topic while you're at the mall, it's what the mall is FOR

@coriander i think online used to be a third space apart from home and work where things could be weird, but now online is just both home and work with no third space
