@coriander i mean i love that they made the devout churchgirl be bi (altho lbr leliana is a lesbian and they are just cowards) but morrigan has such a plainly utilitarian perspective on sex like you can't tell me she would turn down a strapon
she's a shapeshifter for crying out loud
@coriander actually while i'm on this subject why the fuck wasn't morrigan aromantic/pansexual like why the hell did they make HER straight??!
@coriander @00dani f!shep is like “your health is more important :)” whereas m!shep is like “hnnnng”
@coriander @00dani oh i mean absolutely have you seen her try to dance
@00dani @coriander yes i got this dialogue and i was like “oh well that’s that, she’s quarian so like of course we don’t have Actual Sex the way the other characters do” and then i learned that the male shep DOES do that and i was like what the fuck was i just straight girlfriended by tali fucking zorah
@coriander but like i’m fine with the fact that ashley was straight ashley was a racist
@coriander they NEED playtesting for this stuff nobody wants to be the girl with a crush on her straight friend!!!
@coriander like if you are going to make a female character be “straight”, please just hire a lesbian and have her play the game and tell you if you succeeded at making the character be straight or not
@coriander i’m not upset that Mass Effect gave some party members specific sexualities but i am upset that they got Tali wrong
@EnergyStarshine@home.social @allisonwyss yes, i mean, i’m definitely not trying to push queerness back in the closet!! but at the same time, the closet is a real part of our heritage and i’m not entirely sure i can get on‐board with the “nuke the closet from orbit” brand of queerness where everything needs to be out in the open or it doesn’t count. i’d like there to still be space for both…
i also don’t see having multiple possible interpretations as a bad thing. like, i’m okay with giving up the conventional “is she straight or is she gay?”, but in its place i want a “is she a trans man or a tomboyish lesbian?”! and, the thing with subtext is you can support both readings simultaneously! whereas if you were explicit about it you would have to settle on one or the other
@jdp23 i’m not on bad terms with family but i wish i could balance it more with people who belong to my community a little better
unfortunately due to my current living situation, all of those people are currently very remote
a lot of people on this website would tag this with ‹ mh (−) › but my mental health is fine actually, i just feel kind of bad is all
the holidays have been very social so it’s not for lack of interaction, but i’ve also spent nearly the entire time surrounded by straight people so that could be a factor
(i’m upset about the death of act structures for different reasons because i liked them in zelda but)
but act structures peaked with Dragon Age 2 and now people are like “you can go where you want and do what you want!!” but there’s no way of like, quantifying that into meaningful narrative progression because every quest has to stand on its own
