GlitchCat Policy on Global Fulltext Search :do_boost:

By default, Mastodon only allows fulltext searching on posts that a user has interacted with.

Some instances have recently decided to remove that limitation. This document comprises our policy with respect to those instances.

it's raining cats and dogs
it's snowing men

@Satsuma @essentialrandom i find it pretty effective personally; i quite like toot!’s threading

bush said full text search was bad once so clearly as progressives we are obliged to support it

@gaditb hmm well i mean technically I’M acting as a mod and developer of a fork but :P

@gaditb i typically approach these questions from the position of a designer, like, “assuming that there are artists who won’t go viral, and assuming that those artists are potentially the most interesting and radical artists and the least supported, shouldn’t they be our focus?”

i think changing the conversation from being about “all artists” and instead acknowledging that the field of artists is not flat and there are some which need our support rather than others… you have to start there

@coriander a more precise way of saying this might be "is it possible that an artist will never go viral?"

@coriander i mean more concretely WILL all artists go viral, like, is it possible for every artist to go viral, not necessarily at the same time necessarily, but every artist, at least once, having a moment of virality

if the answer is “just a subset” i’m pretty sure i’m more interested in the complement

can all artists go viral or just a subset of them
