@witchfynder_finder and if you’re not going to take the time to do that then just make up meaningless crap like “bonk as a gonk” nobody cares
@witchfynder_finder idk this is actually something i put a great deal of thought into when i’m writing but i think it’s just a matter of making something seem like its own culture and not some grotesque copypasta of contemporary white english usage; if you’re going to use idioms they should be as rich and culturally‐informed as the rest of the work and not some simple word‐substitution or clever reference
@witchfynder_finder the problem is that they always pick idioms that are like, rich with meaning or reference some specific story which doesn’t even translate to the new context instead of picking idioms like
the bees knees
every self‐respecting fantasy universe has bees and they all have knees; go wild
@witchfynder_finder clearly this moment stuck with you
@witchfynder_finder i appreciate fantasy idioms when they make sense in the world
like saying Cucco‐flesh instead of goosebumps in Zelda fics makes sense. Zelda does not have geese but it does have Cuccos. it is a sensible idiom
i do not appreciate fantasy idioms when there is no logical reason why anybody would ever say that thing
Vah Naboris’s back is not broken, never has been broken, and considering it is not a beast of labour, would not be seen carrying straw
@SportsGoblin in the inland northwest we even have a specific saying for this https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Couged%20It
@SportsGoblin the hawks aren’t even the worst offenders, like the M’s could be leading by 8 at the top of the ninth and people will still be like “okay now watch them lose”
because, i mean, they do
@SportsGoblin nah see in the PNW the prevailing attitude is not “they could still win it!” when they’re losing, but “they could still lose it!” when they’re doing well
@witchfynder_finder thankful that at least “reblog if you believe in X supremacy” isn't a popular zoomer meme here like it is on the Rest Of The Internet
@witchfynder_finder they were actually the kind of zip off cargo pants that turn into shorts
now it’s time to read
THE REVIEWS
― V nice smut but also absolutely hilarious, a lil heartbreaking, and so well written. Second fic ever to nearly make me cry, but happy ending!! [rinaslily]
― Perfection do exist [Narvi_MARS]
― The only link/cargo pants fic I've found so far [Notarization]
― Mother of Smut this is good [Obsidiangst]
okay i have now finished the epic and critically‐acclaimed fanfiction ‘The Calamity of Link’s Cargo Shorts’
the ending was a lot of talking and me being frustrated about decisions regarding canon that nobody who follows me will understand, but trust me that it was very boring
The Continuing Adventures of ‘The Calamity of Link’s Cargo Shorts’ – Chapter 2
goddammit we’re doing the “my sword remembers your past lives” trope in this one i guess
The Continuing Adventures of ‘The Calamity of Link’s Cargo Shorts’ – Chapter 2
« At her shout, one of the horses outside makes a loud, disgruntled noise that cuts through the thin fabric of the tent. It's a noise of unambiguous disapproval. ❲…❳
“Sorry, I think Epona wants us to keep the noise down so they can sleep,” Link snickers, raising his eyebrows. “I guess you could say we’re… disturbing the *neigh*-bors.”
