re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma yeah i feel like with a full sized anything it would need to be thin and you’d just fold it in half lengthwise
like with a wool blanket you could probably manage
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma my favourite quilt is 3.5′ × 5′ but i have a blanket which is twin‐sized and that works alright (i am tall)
definitely no bigger than that
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma if you’re literally running around, you fold the quilt in half or thirds and drape it over your shoulders like a scarf
it’s less warming that way but if you’re running then the freedom of motion is more important
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma they’re worn differently! capes are secured by a clasp at the front of the neck whereas quilts are secured by gravity on account of there being more fabric in front of your body than behind
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma by which i mean it is comfortable, fashionable, allows easy thermoregulation, and if you want to take a nap you already have a blanket
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma i’m gonna try and make walking around with quilts draped over your shoulders a Thing
it’s an idea whose time has come
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma but i have it easy because i just have a blanket with me most of the time
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma see i still usually do that lying on the floor with a blanket
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma SOMETIMES
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma lying in bed just makes me tired which is a problem if i’m trying to *recoup* energy
re: Academia, networking meta
@Satsuma but i mean i was severely depressed all of college it’s not like i was asking around either
re: Academia, networking meta
@Satsuma i’m not saying people don’t do things with it, i’m saying that the professors tend to not be the type with a bunch of opportunities in their back pocket
since opportunities tend to coincide with capitalism, and gender studies tends to, not
re: Academia, networking meta
@Satsuma see in my case i majored in gender studies
re: Academia, networking meta
@Satsuma anyways i am simultaneously very good at networking and very bad at networking
i know all the people and gain zero opportunities from them
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma get a blanket
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma you don’t like lying on carpet?
re: Academia (good news tho)
@Satsuma i mean that’s what i’d do
@SportsGoblin browns are in the top half of teams at least
@astraluma which i think is totally reasonable!! it just makes it very hard to offer recommendations to other people lol, like even admins don't necessarily remember the reason behind every domain block
@astraluma they're suspended on cybre.space!!
yeah so i think “ideally” if you have a friend who wants to join the fediverse, you should do the work to find them a “good” instance which you know federates with yours, and general nonspecific lists can be unhelpful at capturing community nuance
of course this “ideal” case may not always be feasible in practice
