the purpose of National Coming Out Day was not soppy letters to your parents but making sure all your friends and coworkers know, with certainty, that they definitely know somebody who is gay

interesting how National Coming Out Day was originally incredibly interlinked with gay and lesbian conceptions of the personal as political but now we mostly see it as an apolitical ceremony and personal choice
