• independence day is a good film because it proposes that with global solidarity we can overthrow the locusts who are stripping our planet for resources, no matter how invincible they seem
• independence day is a bad film because it gave Bush an idea on how to turn an unpopular presidency into a popular one
@Lady I’m legitimately conflicted by this post.
@Lady
• Independence Day is a good film because PEW PEW POW ZAP ZAP WHOOSH PEW PEW BBOOMM!!1 *l33t haxxor noises* BANG!
@Lady not me, I voted, and correctly
@Lady i don't remember the film. tbh the first option sounds like it's more likely to shake out in the film as disguised xenophobia anyway so my guess is my feelings upon (re?)watching it would be "double-bad"
@alyssa independence day tries very hard not to be xenophobic (the aliens are bad because they are fascists not because they are aliens) altho it does have a shot of 90s optimism that maybe in the face of a big enough crisis israel and palestine would just set aside their differences and get along
@alyssa the message of the film can be roughly summed up as “humanity is good because it is scrappy and diverse, and america is good because it is the most scrappy and the most diverse”
the first part is true and the second part is not true but there are worse things to have national pride over
@Lady fairienough
@Lady damn I missed this poll
@Lady i think the idea of how to save a failing presidency made its way into the film because it was already a fairly obvious maneuver so we can’t really blame bush’s actions on it
you are all cowards
