@coriander @aescling my 4a's screen starting peeling off, exposing electronics underneath, and the touchscreen never stopped functioning for 6 months. i only bought my 7 pro because the 4a's battery life became Fucked

@aescling @coriander extremely Unaware behavior not to know the name of the phone i currently own and use for hours a day

@monorail lmao

i am a sweaty tryhard nerd so this new world is better for me, so i understand.

at the same time, my siblings and i would play super mario strikers and monkey target 2 from super monkey ball 2 on the gamecube for hours and it was a blast. there is a joy in curating your own meta with a small circle of family/friends

@coriander i really miss my headphone jack but the google pixel 7a has served me very very well otherwise. wasnt cheap though, and im sure they're at some ungodly expensive new version at this point

@coriander I caved and bought a phone without a headphone jack two years ago. at the time it was tough to find quality phones that still had them because god has forsaken us. maybe its different now, i dont know.

@monorail i mostly agree but it is important to notice how different the world is now in an era of social media and gaming influencers. it is so much easier to see what good (or at least above average) play looks like, while in the early 2000s you had to be lucky enough to play a game with a competitive scene and have the means to go to it

so games exist in a different social context now and it is does meaningfully change what it feels like to play competitive games for casual players, especially after a few weeks.

some things i thought i would have to toss im gonna be able to bring with me
