i think if you post online like "the problem with gaming today is that people online care about the META instead of HAVING FUN and they ruin it for EVERYONE" you should log off forever

If Your Game Can Be Ruined By Playing Optimally Then It Was Always Bad

@monorail i mostly agree but it is important to notice how different the world is now in an era of social media and gaming influencers. it is so much easier to see what good (or at least above average) play looks like, while in the early 2000s you had to be lucky enough to play a game with a competitive scene and have the means to go to it

so games exist in a different social context now and it is does meaningfully change what it feels like to play competitive games for casual players, especially after a few weeks.

@monorail lmao

i am a sweaty tryhard nerd so this new world is better for me, so i understand.

at the same time, my siblings and i would play super mario strikers and monkey target 2 from super monkey ball 2 on the gamecube for hours and it was a blast. there is a joy in curating your own meta with a small circle of family/friends
