hmm, not sure if the princess's maidservant siding with the revolutionaries and asking her to abdicate in the beginning here is laying groundwork for the princess's subsequent gradual realization that the revolutionaries were right or undercutting that subsequent arc.

writing about sex

@Lady that is indeed very much the opposite of my problem. i am writing in a close, intimate perspective, and i'm thinking that perhaps, although the protagonist is somewhat repressed when it comes to the targets of her sexuality (at this point), that might not also be the case about the bare fact of her being a sexual being.

writing about sex

@Lady why might it do that?

re: writing about sex

i mean, i'm definitely squeamish about writing sex, but it may also be appropriate to be discreet about this particular instance. also i need to get over the squeamishness. there's like, at least 3 or 4 sex scenes that are going to have to happen on-page, purely in terms of what's essential to the narrative arc

writing about sex

not sure if i genuinely need to only discreetly imply that this character is masturbating in this scene or if it's just me being squeamish about writing about sex.

(this measurement brought to you by me listening to screen violence director's cut while showering)

Show thread

that was a long shower. nearly the non-director's cut length of screen violence by chvrches

@xsssm@selfy.army is the torso too long? it's about as long as like hip to knee? which feels plausible (i did some contorting to try to compare on my own body hehe)

unrelatedly i like it. i was for some reason pleasantly surprised to notice the toes.

me: i will read this survey textbook on latin american history to get a broad idea of things and help decide what area i want to focus on
me, after reading much of it: i'm probably still just gonna pick argentina huh

@pan ah i do not like it when that happens... like, i wanna eat, but then that will delay my being able to sleep, but then also if i don't then when i wake up i'll be even hungrier. alas :<

@aescling oh dear. i was initially hoping it meant 67 hours and was therefore presumably just a bug.

@Lady @aescling that makes sense. in porn comics (both japanese H doujinshi and anglophone online stuff, being the stuff i'm most familiar with), overt playfulness that makes clear that the creators are having fun with it seems to be pretty common, but not as a pacing mechanism (usually it's reserved for the beginning or end of a comic, or semi-out-of-band like in the text accompanying posting individual pages for online comics).

i think some of my fav artists do often bring in those moments of joy and fun; i'd have to go back and reread to see if they're using it as a pacing device, tho.

@Lady @aescling would the analogous device for you here be something that indicates that the characters are having fun or that the writers are?

@aescling mi español es malo todavía. a menudo tengo que hacer preguntas a mi novia Sofía o usar un diccionario.

apologies to @aescling if either æ doesn't speak spanish and therefore do not understand my parts of that convo or æ speaks spanish well and is annoyed by whatever errors i am surely making.
