@Satsuma it seems like that's often a secondary factor; like, the goal isn't mainly to appease the peasantry, but rather 1. to strengthen them as a source of taxes and 2. to weaken the large landowners who are more politically influential

also tbh at the point i'm at in reading about chinese history, it's rare for a new dynasty to follow the end of prior one instead of a centuries-long period in which there is no unified chinese state

apparently basically every dynasty in chinese history starts out their reign with an agrarian reform

I have a sort of drop-in game that I try to offer to run on a weekly basis. It's largely a dungeon-crawling game, venturing into dangerous places, stealing treasure, meeting strange people, sometimes fighting the strange people. It's over discord voice chat. The game system is Dark Dungeons, which is kind of a take on old versions of D&D, but it's easy to pick up without prior familiarity.

@aescling correct. you get XP for pushing your friends off of high places or into water, stealing delicious things from your friends and eating it fast, pooping on someone from high up, among other things.

i told sofi about the rule in ¡MAPACHES! where basically no prank or anything a raccoon does to another member of their band can cause them damage, and zie is coming up with hilarious and absurd hypotheticals to test the limits of this rule

my favorite is: you're all on top of a really tall building and your buddy is about to fall off, and you can't save them, but you can push them. If you push them off the edge, does they mean they aren't hurt by the fall?

vivi is watching mastermind on the tv so attentively

for example: we hung it up to dry, and then when we gave it back to her, she immediately dropped it in her water cup. then did it at least two more times in like three minutes

i think we now have convincing evidence that vivi prefers for her toy rat to be moist
