soliciting movie recommendations as i am home alone for the next couple of days and want something to put on the telly in the background (and/or more attentively watch, we'll see)
criteria:
@alyssa twin’s recommending Raging Bull (but with the caveat that it’s a “feel bad movie”—it’s about how the central character is a piece of shit apparently) and Do The Right Thing, which he says is “most of the movie is charming” but also is “almost a feel-bad movie”
he also recommends Some Like It Hot, which he describes as “surprisingly based” in its depiction of gender and sexuality
@alyssa anyway fur MY recommendations: the dialogue is hard to hear, but Salt of the Earth is a pretty good movie and makes me feel things
@aescling @wallhackio thanks y'all. will take these into consideration :)
i have watched Do The Right Thing before and liked it tho i don't remember my thoughts more specifically than that.
@alyssa Yidl Mitn Fidl (1936 Molly Picon musical about a girl cross-dressing and travelling-musician-ing with her dad, filmed in Poland)?
... oh wait I missed the bit about English audio. Uhh... well, the songs are still great fun even without translation imo, and while there's SOME characters-developing-in-relation-to-each-other it's more episodic than not so you can drop in and out.
... Singing In The Rain.
@gaditb well now i’m glad you missed that bit. tho idk whether i’ll be able to get my hands on Yidl Mitn Fidl hehe
@gaditb ooh thanks
reposted as public since lbr i assume of peeps who follow me only @Lady has the ability to meaningfully filter on "does this film fit lyssa's tastes?" and i'm not counting on anybody including her trying to do so for this rec request
