📟🐱 GlitchCat Sunday Post, 01 January 2023
The GlitchCat #SundayPost offers news and updates from our corner of the fediverse to yours.
This update covers the past two weeks, since I didn’t bother with one last Sunday!!
§ Current Events :—
• It is Public Domain Day here in the United States, and there are some very cool things which are now unencumbered with copyright here!
§ From Our Users :—
• @Lady continued work on her shrine-xslt static site generator, giving it rudimentary support for generating Atom feeds.
• @Lady also published a playlist of her favourite songs released in 2022.
• @aescling came out to her family and, semi‐relatedly, is in the process of moving, so be tolerant of any disruptions on the sysadminning side of things here.
§ Holidays and Observances :—
• 🍻 05 January is Twelfnight. In the Catholic tradition, this is the night before Epiphany, but in the English tradition, it is a night of partying to close out Yule. Great time to use up any partying leftovers from the holiday season!
• 👼 06 January is Twelfday, if you need a day for eating your king cake 🍰.
finally following up on this…
Here is the list of problems that our instance has identified with the Mastodon 4.0 upgrade, and how much work I think it will take to address these issues. I think we will probably want to fix all the things which aren’t labelled “Hard” before we merge in the latest changes here.

Comments welcome!
cc: @darius who I know has been looking into this stuff for Hometown.
poll that i'm intentionally doing here and not @MindmeshLink
do you identify yourself as "disabled" primarily *to other people* in any context
like, not just saying *what disability* you have, ie "depressed", but do you tell other people "i'm disabled" or put "disabled" or "cripple" or any variant of it in your bios online
i am not asking "are you disabled and do you identify at all with the concept of disability" to be clear, this is a social phenomenon wondering, and nondisabled people are included and should say "never"

anywho if you think any GlitchCat policy is motivated by “bad actors”, you have a very misguided view of who we federate with
GlitchCat Policy on Global Fulltext Search
By default, Mastodon only allows fulltext searching on posts that a user has interacted with.
Some instances have recently decided to remove that limitation. This document comprises our policy with respect to those instances.

“i feel mildly relieved that the obscure and esoteric code that i use to build the site will always be definitely outclassed by the obscure and esoteric code that you use to serve it” ―@Lady
