oh these comments are great (in the sense that they are bad, but in a way i am enjoying)

when anticommunists warn you that the end result will just be a bunch of people in power well off while the Rest Of Us out here don’t even have the option to get rich

“now before you call me a communist, just let me first say, i think people aren’t all equal and it’s useless to pretend otherwise”, yeah ok have you talked to a disabled commie ever

(in fact i’ve seen MMT-ers argue that taxing the rich isn’t even probably that deflationary because they invest way way more than they actually spend, so you might not even necessarily prevent the economy from running out of control anyway)

Show thread

granted, congress normally acts as if they do need funding for spending, so in practice you probably need to fight for a tax to cover a particular bill anyway. even though the economic reality is that you don’t

Show thread

i know an MMT perspective (sorry) would say taxing the rich is important only insofar as it prevents wealth inequality and that you don’t really need to do it to actually fund your priorities (at the federal level, anyway)

kibi was all “i’m surprised you’re surprised about this; this is just how punditry culture works” and i was not expecting that kind of reaction at all

Show thread

i wish i’d been aware enough of how journalism works to know ahead of time that nathan j robinson couldn’t have been trusted

it is something the number of things that got requested in glitchsoc that never got done and then did end up happening in monsterfork
