@MindmeshLink mastodon suppurrts receiving posts from other instances that specify their audience explicitly without having to create a bigass DM and even allows creating a post with the (undocumented!) visibility fur such posts but sadly does not actually have a way to specify that audience during post creation without just notifying them all like a big DM anyway
