@gaditb one time i refused to let trend on this instance and so @aescling went in and forked the code to make always trend (in a merge request i reviewed but shhh) and that is entirely the kind of energy we go for here

copperbadge rarely needs introduction, but i’ll attempt to give him one nonetheless—sam does an excellent job blending his own style with more period appropriate language in this, the result of which is a lot of enjoyable wordplay and other turns of phrase without ever distracting from the narrative

inspired by the bit in the cold open where aziraphale and crowley watch a rehearsal of hamlet, though it’d work well enough as a pre-canon interlude for the book instead if you prefer

just saw someone say twitter was always easy to use, completely ignoring the period where typing @ username did nothing except indicate who you were talking to in the unfiltered plaintext unthreaded hashtagless feed and RTs were just the full text of a tweet copy/pasted with a "RT username" typed manually in front of it

(that was when i actually enjoyed using twitter because i'm annoying)

So a lot of people end up thinking that people here don't favorite much because they see posts with way more boosts than favorites but that's just because favorites don't federate!

For posts on other servers you will only see the likes from your instance, but for posts on your own instance you should see the likes from other instances too.

Favoriting is great, it's just not gonna federate to everyone who sees the post; it's about notifying the person who made the original post

Fully agree with GlitchCat’s reasoning (see above) for silencing instances which enable global fulltext search. however the doc primarily focuses on the detrimental effects of global fulltext and i’s like to additionally suggest that intentional discovery methods (eg guppe groups, hashtags) tend to actually be more effective for community formation than fulltext search because they’re explicitly opt in

for example, by adding a particular tag, i’m indicating that i expect regular readers of said tag to see said post and potentially respond. an equivalent post surfaced via global fulltext search doesn’t contain that same implicit invitation
