@dracokitty CEO was fired from Mozilla for being an anti-queer bigot (cite: abcnews.com/Business/mozilla-c? ) has since doubled down & also branched out into new exciting territory like covid denialism (cite: nytimes.com/2020/12/22/busines )

more weirdly they were caught routing user traffic through their own affiliate links a few years back—mostly for crypto currency sites I think? Oh yeah also, the CEO is/was VERY into crypto (cite: pcmag.com/news/brave-browser-c )

@mythologybot …and why exactly is the king suddenly trying to disinherit this guy on his deathbed? was this a poisoning-but-make-it-look-like-illness situation orrrrr

@wallhackio @amy it does seem like something you should be informed about

@rowyn i see someone is taking this much more calmly! but i guess he hasn’t realized he’s full on missing yet…

@aschmitz @u2764 @iliana the psalter that ꙮ is from isn’t even particularly famous afaik but yeah medievalists in general love to encode characters, so there’s definitely options

@iliana @u2764 @aschmitz if you have a time machine, people who work with Old Church Slavonic also have a good track record of getting symbols added to unicode even when there’s very few uses of that symbol in their corpus, so you’d only need to deface one or two bibles

@hollie yeah i usually charge mine to ~90% and without fail the first several page flips will drop the reported battery percentage by a couple percentage points and its *probably* not because those pages just happen to always take 50x more power to load than the preceding ones did lol

@hollie i haven’t noticed this exact issue, but the xteink’s charge estimation generally seems *very* fuzzy in my experience so i would not be at all surprised to see it reporting 94% charge when full or vice versa

fatphobia and ableism in the romanticization of non-industrialized health outcomes

@ljwrites definitely a bit eugenics, but also it reminds me a bit of the fremen mirage (the idea that civilized society will inevitably become decadent and weak and then be overrun by manly men from less developed countries) which is notoriously both racist and sexist

so really its the whole trifecta

@futzle personally i’m hoping for ranked choice type instant runoff polls

@pastelsinmysky the kids seemed decently into it last year—I figure they’re getting enough candy from everyone else that a savory snack is a welcome change lol

@pastelsinmysky our neighborhood doesn’t have a lot of kids but it does have a lot of generous retirees so we have developed a reputation as one of the better neighborhoods to visit for trick or treating in the city

which is to say i bought two hundred snack bags of doritos at costco to give out and this is probably not enough

@pastelsinmysky yayyy! our fall decorating hasn’t been that extensive, but we DID change the porch lights out for orange ones at least

@everybodyvotes usually false dichotomies are at least plausible opposites, but i would never dip a room temperature (aka not right out of the oven) choc chip cookie in milk, despite being perfectly happy to eat one plain or eat them hot out of the oven *with* milk

@JessMahler @ljwrites @nev it is in fact well known that increasing capacity for car traffic does not actually reduce traffic — instead you just get even more cars on the road and thus more traffic (one citation, but you can find lots of studies on this ncst.ucdavis.edu/research-prod )

increasing capacity for bike or public transit however, ironically, *does* actually reduce congestion, so these changes benefit even people who wish to continue driving.

so really the only people benefitting from getting rid of bike lanes are gasoline companies paying for all the fuel wasted on gridlock each day

@rowyn i didn’t realize the house could turn itself into multiple buildings? for some reason this is the point where i am now having questions about how sentient houses work 😂
